Volunteers
& Background Checks
100%
Mandatory
(Completed During Uniform
Pick-Up)
Those
wishing to volunteer for any Little League activity must submit
to a background check. As of last year Little League
International has made yearly background checks mandatory for
all leagues. Any organization that does not perform
background checks on all their volunteers could have their
Little League Charter removed permanently.
To
facilitate this process, those wishing to volunteer as a coach
or in any other capacity are required to arrive during the
uniform pick-up day to fill out the police check paperwork.
Information collected for police background checks is handled by
Steve Glazer, our safety officer. At no time will NDG receive
any personal information about an individual. Our safety officer
will just receive a pass or fail with regards to the background
check. For those who fail the background check, they will
receive a letter in the mail from the processing department
indicating the reason why they failed the check. At that time if
they still wish to volunteer, they may discuss the situation
with our safety officer in private where he will ask to see the
letter from the processing department to see as to why your
application was rejected. Then he will make a decision as to
whether the past offence in such an offence that would put our
children's safety in jeopardy as per Little League guidelines.

Unsung Volunteer
Sports Personality of
the Year

Carey Ashton
Carey was nominated for Montreal's Sports Personality of the
Year and attended the awards ceremony that was held at the Hotel
Nelligan on Friday afternoon. Carey said it was a blast as he
was in the presence of many Montreal sports luminaries including
Bob Gainey who was the events guest speaker. In fact Carey
stated when he won his award for Unsung Volunteer Sports
Personality of the Year, one of the seven awards issued
during the day, that he felt strange that he received a standing
ovation of over ninety seconds in length while Gainey who
proceeded Carey only had an ovation of around thirty seconds.
Carey admits he was excited by the whole affair and very humbled
by the whole experience.
Congratulations Carey!
