June 18th, 2006 NDG Junior Lynx Win Michelin Tournament
Danilo Cardoza and Remel Cris-Ong combined to pitch a two-hitter against the offensive powerhouse team, Indian River (Philadelphia NY). Both the NDG Junior Lynx and Philadelphia dominated the weekend tournament. The NDG Lynx outscored the opposition 78 - 0 and Philadelphia outscored the opposition 61 - 13. In the final match, Philadelphia's ace pitcher, Jordan Hunneyman, who hit the only homerun during the tournament, held the Lynx at bay for four innings allowing them only two base hits, including a long shot by Jack Melkerson that almost left the ball park but actually bounced over the fence for a ground-rule double. Equal to the challenge was Lynx's pitcher, Danilo Cardoza, mowing down the opposition one-by-one, not allowing a hit, nor a ball hit out of the infield, while striking out five in four innings of work. In the fifth inning the Lynx came alive. Lead-off hitter and speedster Matthew Chiovitti was walked. Moved to second on a base hit by Jack Melkerson, and scored on a base hit by Michael Fitzsimmons. Michael scored the Lynx's second run on a solid base hit up the middle by Danilo Cardoza. Remel Cris-Ong, who came on in relief of Danilo in the fifth inning finished off the game allowing only two hits through three innings of work while striking out six.
Semi-Finals The Junior Lynx who beat Knapps Station during the round-robin 23 - 0, easily beat Knapps Station in the semi-final 17 - 0, holding Knapps Station to only two hits. In the second semi-final game, Philadelphia scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and then went onto win the match 7 - 6 by holding off an offensive run by Cornwall in the top of the seventh. Thanks to Our Volunteers These tournaments would not be possible if not for the contributions made by volunteers. In that regard I would like to thank the following people for the contribution they made during the weekend most notably: Celine Massy, Catherine Gall, Judith Litvack, Alexandra De Jesus, and Ginette Sauve-Frankel.
