For the past 10 years Debbie Praw, our Special Projects Coordinator, has written the citations submitted to the Cote des Neiges Sports Awards selection committee. Last night, Claudine Perreault, one of the directors of Sports and Leisure for CDN-NDG presented Debbie Praw with an award recognizing her efforts over the past 10 years. Claudine mentioned that of all the citations written in the past 10 years, Debbie's are by far the most elaborate and detailed.

Below is an excerpt of the speech given by previous Volunteer of the Year award winner, James Rankine, with regards to Greg's contributions to the league.

"It was a real pleasure to give this award to Greg because he truly represents the values of Little League. Greg is the guy no one really sees but without his efforts the organisation would be quick to miss his presence. When it rains Greg is one of first ones prepared to go on out and get the fields ready. During all of our summer tournaments, Greg is one of the first ones their in the morning to help set things up and at night when things have to be taken down he's one of the last ones to leave. Greg scores games and umpires in a moments notice and helps out full time with the Senior Lynx team as it's equipment manager."

This is the third time Carey Ashton has won this award and a second time for David Goldberg and Jan Sauvé-Frankel. James Rankine said, " that the Senior Lynx are truly an incredible coaching staff. It's true that the team they coached won the Provincials and represented Quebec well at the Nationals but this staff does way much more. All you have to do is go on out and watch one of their games to see what I'm talking about. The warm-up they run is like watching a well oiled machine. It's entertaining and inspiring. Then there's the players themselves. I've watched many games and I've talked to many people about this team and all anyone has to say about these players is that they are polite, gracious, and perfect gentleman on and off the field. In fact we received a letter from the Senior Canadian Nationals  tournament director Roy Bergerman stating that billeting parents and tournament organizers were all very impressed by how the Senior Lynx players comported themselves while in British Columbia."

It's all these elements put together that make the NDG Senior Lynx NDG's competitive coaching staff, our Competitive Coaching Staff of the Year.

House League Coach of the Year

Chris Patterson

Chris Patterson was a very busy coach this year as he was involved with three teams. With the minor division missing a coach for one of its' teams, Chris was asked if he could help out and take on a team. Chris never hesitated as he stepped up and took on the head coaching duties of the Minor Orioles. What was so marvellous about Chris taking on a minor team was that he didn't even have a child on the team as his son plays T-Ball.

Chris also was active as an assistant coach for the T-Ball Reds and the Provincial Champions the T-Ball Lions.

Lionel Geller Award of Excellence

Terry Doucet

Terry Doucet has become NDG Minor Baseball's first recipient of the Lionel Geller Award of Excellence. It's an award given to those who have made an outstanding contribution to the league over many years.

Terry has been involved with NDG Minor baseball for over 15 years as as both a coach and as a member of the executive. Terry was the Volunteer of the Year in 2002 and was co-president of the league in 2005.

For the past seven years Terry has led a pitching clinic throughout the winter months and during the summer months has been available to all who wish to have private pitching lessons. On his own, this past summer Terry started a Sunday baseball clinic which turned out to be extremely popular.

Besides Lionel Geller, I can't think of another person who has made such an immeasurable impact on the league and our kids over the past fifteen years. It is for these reasons that Terry Doucet has been fittingly chosen as NDG Minor Baseball's first recipient of the Lionel Geller Award.
